Weddington derives its name from prominent 1890’s resident, Reuben B. As the area of Charlotte and Weddington both continued to grow throughout the years, residents feared being annexed into the metro Charlotte-area. Wanting to keep their small town feel, residents incorporated in 1983 to preserve the unique past and build a shining future, like other small North Carolina towns.
